According to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), food waste is one of the primary drivers of climate change. For instance, it accounts for almost 8–10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The impact of this waste management issue is far from simple. Over the years, it has contributed to environmental degradation and biodiversity loss.

This year’s World Cleanup Day focuses on addressing this issue while raising awareness about responsible waste disposal. On September 19, 2026, ISSI Corp, along with companies Springboard and Pi Health, participated in this initiative. Employees worked together and collaborated on a cleanup drive along the BGC–Ortigas Center Road Link.

“We spent three hours cleaning the bridge as part of the World Cleanup Day. We’re so happy to have participated and we’re so blessed that we had a very fine, primarily safe, and positive experience.” John B. Echauz said, ISSI Corp Chairman and CEO.

The event was spearheaded by Patricia Rodriguez, Project Lead, and Hannah Antic, Facilities and Compliance Officer, who worked together to organize the initiative. Patricia shared that she was delighted to see many people participate in the cleanup drive. “I’m very glad that a lot of people were aware of the initiative, able to participate, and were very willing to clean up Kalayaan Bridge,” she said.

Hannah acknowledges the collective efforts that contributed to the success of the initiative. She expressed her gratitude for everyone’s time, effort, and contributions to the activity.
“Every person brought something different, and every bit of effort mattered. Looking around at the team, I felt proud of the people I work with and grateful that they chose to spend their time caring fo a place we all share.” she said.
The United Nations emphasizes that the objective of the event goes beyond simply cleaning up waste—it aims to address the systems that continue to contribute to environmental destruction. By the same token, Patricia hopes that the initiative will go beyond the cleanup itself and encourage greater awareness of responsible waste disposal.
“Hopefully this inspires more people not just do a cleanup everytime but also being able to be more responsible with their waste.” she reiterated.

Apart from that, participants also shared that the event allowed them to interact and collaborate with their fellow associates. According to them, they enjoyed participating in the activities and were glad to be part of an initiative that promotes environmental awareness.
ISSI Corp is committed to organizing events that create a positive impact on the community. This year’s cleanup drive not only aimed to clean Kalayaan Bridge but also sought to call for action and highlight the issues that contribute to the ongoing environmental crisis. It also aimed to raise awareness and encourage people to develop a deeper understanding of the importance of environmental sustainability.

Working together toward the same goal is an important step toward creating a more sustainable and flourishing environment. The success of the event was made possible by the collective efforts of everyone who chose to take action and participate in a cause for the environment. John encourages everyone to volunteer in the next Cleanup Day as part of our shared responsibility to preserve and protect the environment.
