Beyond Labels: Celebrating Pride Month

It is a no-brainer that society continues to operate within a patriarchal system. Historically, women had to fight for their basic human rights just to get to where they are today. It was not achieved overnight—there were lots of movements, protests, and pushbacks. The need to challenge the status quo just to attain the things they should have already had is concerning.

These struggles are not unique to women. Despite various movements and progress in advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion, many marginalized groups continue to face the same systemic challenges, particularly the LGBTQIA++ community. While both groups may differ in some ways, they both share the same fight; they are both resisting the oppressive system and dismantling exclusionary practices.

In corporate environments, members of the community are still subjected to forms of inequity. Every day, they face discrimination, prejudice, and stereotypes in the workplace. An environment that should ideally serve as a space for inclusivity becomes a place for conformity—to gain respect, empathy, and acceptance.

The corporate world is genderless.

According to Gregorio (2025), the queer community is three times more likely to experience workplace discrimination and violence. They argued that the community often faces workplace abuses such as verbal violence, unfair treatment, and deliberate obstruction of career growth. Meanwhile, according to the William Institute School of Law (2024), 47% of LGBT workers have experienced discrimination or harassment at work at some point in their lives. These studies highlight the need for a more proactive approach to opposing workplace violence against the community. These systemic injustices should not be ignored. There must not be a continuous pursuit of equality; in fact, it should already be the norm in the corporate world—respect is just the bare minimum.

While these realities continue to persist across many workplaces, some organizations are taking initiatives to foster a culture where inclusivity and respect are not aspirations but already established norms. For instance, ISSI Corp believes that the corporate world is not defined by gender. The company’s culture promotes inclusivity and diversity. It does not need to reinforce respect for members of the community because it is already a fundamental workplace standard being practiced. It believes that respect is not something that needs to be earned; it is not a reward—it is the baseline.

Metrics, not labels.

A healthy and supportive work environment assesses its people based on facts and data. Most importantly, it is not influenced by biases and stereotypes. Moreover, it  evaluates its people’s performances objectively. It does not see gender as a filter for skills and capabilities. Everyone is held to the same criteria regardless of their gender identity. All are given equal opportunities to nurture, grow, and learn.

Come as you are.

A corporate setting must foster a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. A diverse and inclusive workplace is essential in building genuine relationships and cultivating mutual respect among its people. Individuals must be given equal opportunities and the freedom to exist authentically without having to justify who they are or conform to societal standards. They must be encouraged to embrace their individuality and uniqueness. Workplace culture must be grounded in acceptance, empowerment, and belongingness. It should motivate its people to come as they are.

Your closet is your safe space.

In a heteronormative society where heterosexuals often hold social power and influence, coming out as a member of the LGBTQIA++ community is frequently viewed as something special. Every person has their own story of coming out. Some treat it as an act of visibility, while others see it as an expression of self-love and self-acceptance. Regardless of their reasons, one thing is certain—it is a celebration. In a world dominated by judgment and prejudice, embracing your identity is a form of resistance.

However, coming out requires immense courage. Someone needs to be brave to make this very bold decision. You are not required to do it if you are not ready. Your closet is not a cage but a place of safety. You do not have to come out; you get to decide who you let in.

If you choose to come out, do so on your own terms and in your own time. But remember that it is not a responsibility or an expectation. Until the world feels softer, kinder, and safer, stay where you feel secure and at peace.

Leading with love.

A genuine support for LGBTQIA++ individuals goes beyond statements. There must be actions, callouts, and even movements. ISSI Corp stands with the community in challenging gender-based stereotypes and biases in the workplace. It acknowledges that despite various efforts, violence against the community still exists. Hence, there is a need for a more thorough implementation of policies to safeguard them.

However, while policies and legal protections play a crucial role in safeguarding their rights, respect must also be a personal responsibility. It should not be viewed merely as a compliance requirement but as a fundamental standard of professional conduct. It is the bare minimum to treat one another with respect and dignity, regardless of their Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE). When respect becomes a shared responsibility, organizations are better positioned to address the deeper inequalities that affect the community.

Putting people at the heart of the organization means not being passive about structural disparities. In fact, it is about challenging the systemic oppression faced by the community and creating equal opportunities for all. It must foster an environment that is rooted in belongingness and acceptance.

Acceptance must not be conditional. Everyone deserves to be valued and treated equally for who they are, not for how much they can prove themselves. Queer individuals do not need to overperform just to be seen and heard—and this is the very heart of pride.

Pride Month is not just a celebration—it is a protest. ISSI Corp stands in solidarity with the community in their fight for equality. Leading with love means recognizing each and every person's individuality. It does not discriminate. It does not subject anyone to any form of prejudice. It does not limit individuals to predefined roles or expectations. Most importantly, it creates a space grounded in respect, dignity, and love. Happy Pride!
